An Appeal

Come forward
Sundarban Sramajeebee Haaspaataal, a toilers’ hospital, needs your help

It’s a tale of creation, a tale of struggle. It’s a narration of survival, a narration of lesson to survive.

Sundarban Sramajeebee Haaspaataal, the Sunderbans Toilers’ Hospital, is the central character in the story. It’s a social organization in all its senses. It has been built up bit by bit with dream-love-labor-sacrifice-patience of many human beings. Farm laborers, poor peasants, working people, aborigines living in villages near and far are indivisible resources of this organization.

Ideas appearing strange in the present perspective are being implemented through this organization: application of organic fertilizer, gas for domestic cooking at cheaper price, poultry-cattle-fish farming, apiculture, chemicals-free spice production. Uncompromising fight against caste based system, superstition, obstacles in the name of creed, environment-degradation are being waged. Simultaneously, a collective attitude is being nourished among the ordinary persons in society through health awareness and blood donation camps. These initiatives opened a new avenue. Sundarban Sramajeebee Haaspaataal is a product of these efforts. With an indoor facility, the hospital emerged boldly in 2002.

Limited capacity failed to create obstacles during the hours of initiation of the journey. Yet, limited capacity is failing to obstruct the journeying. Sincere efforts of a group of socially-aware physicians created the feeling among the people of the locality: Not a single citizen would be allowed to die without proper medical treatment. And, that medical treatment is realistic, scientific and less costly. Assaults by sectarian interests, turmoil, natural calamities including the cyclone Ayla and tsunami were defeated by the collective sense of life. Those stories of struggle are still around, still echo-re-echo.

However, time isn’t static. Primary perceptions of a few persons change also. Their viewpoint gathered since childhood indirectly creates troubling situation for their friends in the journey. Today, the hospital suddenly finds absence of physicians, especially of young physicians with sense of social awareness.

The reality leads to make an emergent appeal on behalf of a helpless section of a backward society, leads to make an urgent appeal to the socially aware people and physicians: Come forward, please; stand by a honest, transparent, principled, real mass organization, stand by the simple and plain-living, toiling, poor people of the area. Please, come forward, and let’s, together, assure the people there in the area: You are not alone, not helpless.

Collectively, we shall keep intact this sense of collective life attained through hard labor; we shall keep alive their dream of happy and courageous life.

Because, it’s our conviction, yet, in this time of decadence all around, there’s no dearth of socially aware physician; there’s no deficit in their response to people’s needs.

Friends, dear, please, spread this appeal among others.

Please Note:

The appeal was posted in the website "countercurrents.org' on 14th September, 2017. There was a response from a reader, Sally Dugman. It reads as: "

Farooque, thank you for informing about this hospital’s situation. It’s appreciated.

I have met several USA doctors who donate a month of their time each year to serving medical needs in poverty ridden countries at no cost. There are also organizations that serve and I recommend that you contact them to get the medical help needed for this hospital.

If you contact these two groups for support, they will come. (In addition, try an International Red Cross contact for help out of Geneva, I recommend.) They are:
